Middle Black Clough, Glossop

Walk location: Woodhead Road car park

Tucked away alongside the Birchen Bank wood in the heart of Glossop, Middle Black Clough offers a beautiful view and an interesting scramble that hikers will love. If you’re driving, there are a number of laybys along Woodhead Road and also a car park where you can begin your walk.

After crossing the bridge outside of the car park, follow the path alongside the ford, keeping the stream on your left. This will lead you to a natural stone crossing which you can use to cross and follow the path up to the waterfall.

Three Shires Head, Buxton

Walk location: Gradbach car park

Avg walk time: 3-5 hrs

This well-known spot is a must for any walkers that haven’t already ticked it off their Peak District bucket list. As its name suggests, the multi-level waterfall is located at the meeting point of three counties- Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Beginning in Gradbach, the circular route takes you alongside the River Dane and offers some of the most idyllic views in the Peak District. For anyone looking to snap photos of their hike, you’ll be rewarded with great views from Cut-thorn Hill on your way back to the car park.

Kinder Downfall, Derbyshire

Walk location: Bowden Bridge car park

This iconic viewpoint is the largest waterfall in the Peak District which is why it had to make the list. If you’re looking for a challenging hike and breathtaking scenery, Kinder Downfall ticks all of the boxes.

There are several routes to reach the peak of Kinder Scout but there is a good circular trail starting from Bowden Bridge that will give you the chance to conquer the peak and see the best views of Kinder Downfall. The route takes you alongside Kinder Reservoir and is signposted the whole way so even beginner hikers can find their way.

Blackden Brook, Derbyshire

Walk location: Snake Pass

Avg walk time: 3-4 hrs

As one of the largest waterfalls in the Peak District, this must-see natural landmark is a perfect trek for avid walkers. It’s a little off the beaten track and isn’t too easy to reach so you’ll need to be prepared for some rock hopping.

Start your hike at Snake Pass and follow the signs to make your way up Blackden Brook where you’ll discover beautiful photo opportunities and smaller waterfalls along the way. As you ascend, there will be a clearing that leads to the big waterfall where you can take some photos before making your way on to the Kinder Plateau.

Lumsdale Falls, Matlock

Walk location: Upper Lumsdale car park

Avg walk time: 1-3 hrs

Although this eye-catching waterfall may not be the biggest in the Peak District, it offers a unique photo opportunity and is located along one of the most historic routes in the area. This is a must for hikers in search of scenic walks.

As you follow the signs from Upper Lumsdale, you’ll make your way through country lanes, woods and historic ruins. There are a number of old 17th-century mills that are perfect for photographers and history enthusiasts.
