For hikers, mountaineers and those looking for a challenge, you’ll struggle to find a better spot than Glencoe Mountain Resort. This popular campsite is situated in the Glencoe National Nature Reserve, making it a treasure trove of natural beauty.

The site offers peaceful seclusion for those in search of a quiet getaway but still provides the basic amenities to make your trip more comfortable. Multiple power hookups are available in addition to tent pitches. There is also a selection of micro lodges if you want to experience the Highlands in comfort.

The campsite is perfectly located between five different peaks in and around the Glencoe National Nature Reserve, which means it’s a paradise for outdoor adventurers. For those looking to explore the area on foot, the Lost Valley is situated nearby - the famous valley used by the MacDonalds of Glencoe to hide their cattle after escaping the 1692 massacre.

Veteran hikers in search of a new challenge can also choose from Sgorr nam Fiannaidh, Meall Dearg and Am Bodach. All of these peaks are within close distance to each other so many people often plan routes to tackle more than one in a day.

Being situated so close to the beautiful Loch Eli and connected waters, you’ll have a perfect opportunity to spot local wildlife. Take a stroll or plan a hike alongside the waters and you’re likely to see birds, otters and even porpoises. Fans of Harry Potter may also recognise the Hogwarts Express (also known as the Jacobite Steam Train) which runs along the iconic bridge during the summer months.

Red Squirrel Campsite

Leacantuim Farm, Old Glencoe Road, Glencoe, Highlands, PH49 4HX

Ideal for: Wild camping experience

The Red Squirrel Campsite is a great location to experience wild camping without being too far from civilization. Although it’s legal to wild camp in most of Scotland, this site is a great opportunity for solo campers to meet other people while still getting the full experience.

There are multiple pitches available for tents and campervans spread throughout the grounds. No electrical hookups are installed however visitors are able to charge devices in the office building for a small fee.

There are plenty of ways to get the full wild camping experience around the Red Squirrel Campsite. Visitors can spend the day relaxing by the water as there are designated fishing spots dotted around the area. The River Coe runs alongside the campsite and is a popular wild swimming spot for cooling off in the warmer months.
