Hoathwaite Campsite

For lovers of wild camping, this hidden gem in the heart of Cumbria offers a camping experience that will help you get back to nature and take advantage of the beautiful scenery that the Lake District has to offer.
The National Trust campsite is ideal for backpackers and those travelling light, with plenty of space for tent pitches and the basic amenities to wash up and stay clean during your trip. There are no electrical hookups which gives you the chance to put down your devices and make the most of your peaceful surroundings.

Situated right next to Coniston Water, Hoathwaite Campsite is surrounded by idyllic countryside and plenty of great walking routes - an ideal base to access the Old Man of Coniston. There’s also a steam yacht gondola a short walk from the campsite that runs trips and cruises across the lake, offering a fun way to experience the scenery.

After a short walk to the north of the campsite, you’ll discover the mysterious Castlerigg Stone Circle, a heritage site which is steeped in history and has been a source of intrigue for centuries. This is a great photo opportunity and a fun learning experience for kids.

Great Langdale Campsite
Great Langdale, Ambleside, Cumbria, LA22 9JU
Ideal for: Relaxing escapes, walking, and climbing.
The Great Langdale Campsite is a favourite amongst walkers wanting to experience the best of what the Lake District has to offer. Located close to some of the most iconic peaks in the area, you’ll never be too far from a new challenge.
Whether you choose to pitch up a tent, bring your motorhome or rent out one of the luxury glamping pods, you’ll be surrounded by incredible panoramic views during your stay. The campsite is one of only a few in the area that stays open all year round -great news for anyone planning a camping trip during the colder months.

For climbers and hikers looking for a challenge, this Lake District campsite is in the perfect spot. There are nearby walks on the Langdale Pikes and Bowfell, and scrambles on Pavey Ark.
You’re also never too far from a walking or cycle route where you can discover plenty of local historic sites such as The Armitt Museum in Ambleside, the Stickle Tarn Barn hydro powdered pub, the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel, and The Langdale Boulders - two prehistoric art sites.

Surrounded by ancient woodlands, the Waterfoot Park Campsite offers a peaceful escape in the heart of the Lake District. There’s plenty of space for tent pitches and motorhomes but if you’re looking for a more comfortable experience, the site offers some of the best glamping pods and cabins in the area.
Dog-lovers are welcome at Waterfront Park and will find plenty of great walking routes within close distance to the site. With an on-site shop, local pubs nearby and all of the standard amenities, it’s a perfect place to escape to nature while keeping the comforts of home.

The campsite sits alongside Ullswater which is known for being one of England’s most beautiful lakes - a perfect place for a walk or an incredible backdrop to relax and read a book. If you’re interested in local heritage sites, you’ll find Lowther Castle and its surrounding gardens just a short drive away. The location features beautiful architecture and is a great spot for photographers.

Side Farm Campsite
Patterdale, Ullswater, Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 0NP
Ideal for: Back to nature camping.
For the camping purists who want to get back to nature with little more than their tent and a few basic amenities, this is the perfect spot. You won’t find any glamping pods or lodges but you will find some of the best views in all of the Lake District.
Side Farm is located at the foot of Ullswater which offers an idyllic backdrop to a peaceful solo camp or weekend away with friends. Place Fell is just a stone’s throw away from the campsite and offers a rewarding hike with incredible views of the lake.

Nearby you'll find access to Helvellyn via challenging Striding Edge, one of the lake's most famous ridgelines. You’ll also find the Ullswater Steamers, a collection of authentic steamboats that provide relaxing, scenic cruises across the lake.
This is a great opportunity to find out more about the history of the local area and make the most of the beautiful surroundings. The cruises link up with local walking routes which makes it perfect for hikers planning trails to explore the area.
